Overview:
Modeled and deployed a virtual replica of NASA’s Single-Stage Axial Compressor Facility for use inside a CAVE Automatic Virtual Environment system. The project supported employee orientation and public outreach efforts for the Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate.
Tools and Techniques Used:
-
Blender
-
Unity
-
MiddleVR
Process:
-
Converted and refined geometry from CAD source models into an optimized 3D asset using Blender.
-
Applied texturing, UV unwrapping, and material cleanup to prepare the model for real-time rendering.
-
Integrated the environment into Unity with MiddleVR, configuring cameras, navigation, and spatial alignment for the multi-wall CAVE system.
-
Collaborated with researchers to ensure scientific accuracy and functional representation within the virtual space.
Result:
A functional, walkable VR representation of the Axial Compressor Facility used for internal training, demonstrations, and community outreach—expanding access to a highly restricted research environment through immersive visualization.
